Why is WordPress performance so important?

Slow websites lose visitors and rankings.

Google has officially confirmed it: loading speed is a ranking factor. Since the introduction of Core Web Vitals in 2021, performance is more important than ever. A delay of just one second can reduce the conversion rate by up to 7%.

WordPress itself is not slow – but many themes and plugins are poorly optimised. Oversized images, non-minified CSS/JS, missing caching strategies and inefficient database queries unnecessarily slow down WordPress sites.

I systematically analyse your website and optimise all performance bottlenecks. The result: faster load times, better Core Web Vitals and more satisfied visitors.

  • Better Google rankings through page speed
  • Higher conversion rate with faster pages
  • Fewer bounces thanks to short load times
  • Optimal Core Web Vitals (LCP, FID, CLS)
  • Better mobile performance
  • Lower server costs through optimisation

Frequently asked questions about performance optimisation

How much faster will my WordPress site become?
This depends on the starting state. Typically we achieve improvements of 40-70% in load time. I carry out a PageSpeed test before optimisation and document the improvements. In some projects we have reduced load time from 8 seconds to under 2 seconds.
Do the optimisations persist after WordPress updates?
Most optimisations remain permanently. Caching settings, image optimisation and database cleanup are independent of WordPress updates. With theme or plugin updates, some optimisations may need to be readjusted. That is why I recommend ongoing WordPress Maintenance.
Can optimisations break my website?
Before every optimisation I create a complete backup. I test all changes thoroughly. If problems should occur, I can revert to the original state within minutes. With my experience I know exactly which optimisations are safe.
What are Core Web Vitals and why are they important?
Core Web Vitals are three performance metrics that Google uses for ranking: LCP (Largest Contentful Paint), FID (First Input Delay) and CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift). These measure how fast content loads, how responsive the page is and whether elements jump when loading. Good values improve rankings. More on my WordPress Security page.
Is a CDN worthwhile for a Swiss website?
Even for predominantly Swiss visitors, a CDN offers advantages. It reduces server load and improves load times through optimised delivery of static assets. For international visitors, a CDN is essential. I help with evaluation and setup. See also Plugin Development for custom solutions.
