Index data & create embeddings

First, all searchable content (products, articles, documents) is converted into numerical vectors by an embedding model such as OpenAI text-embedding-3 or an open-source equivalent. These vectors are stored in a vector database (e.g. pgvector, Pinecone or Weaviate) and form the semantic search index.

Process search queries in real time

Every search query from a user is also converted into a vector. The system finds the most content-similar entries in the index – in milliseconds, even with large amounts of data. Optionally I combine semantic search with classic keyword matching for maximum hit rate (hybrid search).
